The State Government has sanctioned the opening of 3 new medical colleges in Punjab, said Minister of Medical Education Om Prakash Soni. These colleges are to be set up in different parts of Punjab.
In the list, there is also a burn unit and a trauma center, a cancer center at a cost of 120 crore and the Department of Virology at Government medical colleges in Punjab. The Government is also planning to open new sub-stations, hostels, operation theatres and a super-specialty block in different medical institutions of Punjab along with the 3 new medical colleges.
The proceedings to set up State of Art Advanced Virology Center at a cost of Rs 550 crore have been initiated by the Punjab Government which is being funded by the ICMR, said Minister Soni. New recruitments for creating posts in Dental colleges in Punjab at different places in Punjab are also lined up in the row. The completion of a Satellite center is aimed to be completed in 2021-22 while a new satellite center is decided to start soon.
Like in 2020 when 293 doctors, 211 nurses and 20 paramedical staffs were recruited to enhance hospitals in combating COVID-19 along with the 1822 additional outsourced posts, the Department of Medical Education and Research has also proposed 726 recruitments including 142 doctors, 189 nurses and 234 technicians under the Ghar Ghar Rozgar Yojna to strengthen the department.
