The first step of the IIM admission procedure has been completed with CAT result 2016 being declared on 9 Jan 2017 by IIM Bangalore. The final admission process takes place through a two-step process that includes short-listing of the candidates by various IIMs and final selection procedure for their postgraduate programmes in management.
IIM Admission Procedure
Each IIM has its own IIM admission criteria for admission to its postgraduate management programmes. The CAT percentile plays a vital role in the IIM admission process. For IIM admission 2017-2019, the candidates must have the minimum CAT 2016 percentile as specified by the IIMs. Each IIM announces the list of candidates shortlisted for its next level of IIM admission procedure based on the CAT Percentile on its official website. The IIMs will then send interview letters to the shortlisted candidates directly.
The first shortlist of candidates is based on candidates securing minimum section-wise and aggregate CAT percentile scores.
The shortlisted candidates for IIM admission procedure stage must comply with the following eligibility verification.
Mark sheets and Degree Certificate
The candidates must show all the mark sheets and submit attested copies of the same to prove their eligibility at the time of interview. If a candidate is selected for a postgraduate programmes of the IIM, he/she must submit the original certificates along with their attested copies at the time of joining a management course.
Reservation Category Requirements
The candidates belonging to SC/ST/NC-OBC/PWD categories must show the original caste/class and/or disability certificate and submit a photocopy of the same at the time of interview. If a candidate is selected for a management programmes of the IIM, the original certificate of qualifying degree and attested copy of the same must be submitted for verification at the time of joining a management course.
Candidates in the Final Year of Graduation
If a candidate is appearing for his/her final year of bachelor’s degree course, he/she must show an original certificate from the Principal/Registrar/Director of the University certifying that the candidate has obtained a minimum 50% marks (45% in the case of SC/ST/PWD candidates) based on latest available marks. He/she must submit an attested copy of the original certificate at the time of interview.
The next and final level of IIM admission procedure include Written Ability Test (WAT), Group discussion (GD) and Personal Interviews. Certain IIMs also consider the previous academic performance of the candidates and work experience in short listing and ranking of the candidates at various stages of the IIM admission procedure.
The IIM admission procedure will be conducted from February 2017 to April 2017 and the final list of candidates selected for admission to postgraduate programmes in management will be announced by May 2017.
Besides IIMs, many top B-Schools in India accept CAT 2016 scores for MBA admission 2017 or admission to other management courses. Some of the top business schools shortlist candidates based on their CAT scores for their selection process. However, for admission in some MBA colleges, students need to apply with their CAT scores to get shortlisted.
