The National Eligibility Cum Entrance Test (NEET) UG for admissions to MBBS courses in Medical Colleges in India will have no changes in its exam pattern this year. NEET UG 2021 Exam Pattern will remain same and will be conducted on pen and paper mode in between June and July. Amit Khare, Secretary of Higher Education said that it would be very unfair for the students if NEET exam is conducted on the revised pattern in such a notice.
Speculations on conducting NEET twice a year went high after the repercussions of Covid-19 last year. Demands raised when conducting JEE main multiple times went on to be a success with around 28% students scoring better in the next attempt. The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare gave its approval for the same in February, 2021 but the Ministry of Education wanted the NEET entrance examination to be conducted online and on a computer based mode which couldn’t reach the Ministry of Health on time.
Amit Khare also mentioned that as much as they want to conduct the exam more than once to help students perform better, conducting multiple exams on pen and paper in such a short period is not possible. It has to be conducted online which cannot happen this early as it requires consultations with all the stakeholders of NEET exam. Comparing JEE and NEET, he said that NEET is mandatory for medical admissions to all medical colleges in India while such is not the case with JEE. To change NEET UG 2021 Exam Pattern also means conducting exams online for biology students who might not be comfortable with computers can also be a task and conducting exams online and multiple times would need a preparation of six-eight months.
